If you thought that gluten allergy symptoms show up mostly as digestive problems, you’re in for a shock. Gluten is linked to an astonishing list of chronic conditions that range from asthma to depression to cancer.
This is not a complete list of gluten allergy symptoms, but it's a place to start. Every year, researchers seem to find yet another health problem that is linked to gluten.
I was shocked when I discovered how many chronic conditions are grain-related. But it makes sense when you realize that humans have only been eating gluten grains for about 10,000 years - since the Agricultural Revolution made us farmers instead of hunters and gatherers. That's a brief span of time in terms of human evolution.
If you have any of these gluten allergy symptoms, you can have a blood test for Celiac Disease.
But you don’t have to have Celiac Disease or a medically recognized allergy to have trouble with gluten, wheat and other grains. Many of us suffer from gluten intolerance – something that may not show up on tests.
Personally, once I realized that people in my family – including myself – had some of these symptoms and conditions, I didn’t wait around for tests. I dropped all grains and went on the Paleo diet.
I consider it one of the best natural remedies for freeing yourself from gluten allergy symptoms. It literally changed my life. Eating this way healed all my symptoms and radically improved my health and my energy level.
Dr. James Braly says that one out of three people in North America has a gluten intolerance or allergy.
So when you see gluten or wheat allergy symptoms in one of your blood relatives – especially a parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent or one of their siblings – be aware that you and your children could have problems with gluten and grains, too – even if you believe you have no allergies.
You can tell if you’re gluten intolerant by checking for your own symptoms on the list above and then changing your diet to eliminate grains.
There’s a 70% chance that you’ll feel horrible while the gluten is detoxing from your body. That's a definite signal that you have a gluten sensitivity. Fortunately, when the withdrawal symptoms are over, you will be amazed by how much better you feel.
And here’s a tip: when you’re dumping gluten, dump the sugar, too. Even though sugar is technically gluten-free, it is generally found in most of the foods you need to avoid if you want to stop having gluten allergy symptoms.
And it’s no secret that sugar does no favours to your health. It is heavily implicated in many of the same conditions that are in the list of wheat allergy symptoms above.
Like wheat and gluten-free flours – potato starch, rice flour, tapioca – sugar skyrockets your blood sugar and leads to insulin resistance. Some of the health issues related to insulin resistance are high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Not so sweet!
