Best Home Remedies for Gout

Home remedies for gout make an enormous difference to how much gout pain you suffer.

Gout is all about uric acid. When you have too much floating around in your bloodstream (called hyperuricemia), crystals form in your joints, kidneys and/or under your skin. It’s a bit like having big splinters stuck inside you. Yeow!

So the best natural remedies for gout help you lower your levels of uric acid.

Cherries –
Sweetest of Home Remedies for Gout

Cherries are one of the very best home remedies for gout. And they taste great, too!

It doesn’t matter whether you get your cherries fresh, frozen, in juice, or in concentrate – studies have shown that any format helps to lower uric acid levels and reduce inflammation.

Sour or tart cherry products offer more benefits than sweet cherries, but both sour and sweet are good natural remedies for gout.

Apple Cider Vinegar –
one of the good old home remedies for gout

Many people swear by apple cider vinegar (ACV) as a gout cure. Like cherries, it’s one of the home remedies for gout that has been around for many years and has stood the test of time.

Make sure you buy a natural, unpasteurized version, so you get all the benefits.

When you are having gout pain or sense an attack coming on, drink 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in an 8-ounce glass of water, two to three times a day. Keep taking it for several days.

If you don’t like the taste, try drinking with a straw or mixing the ACV into a beverage that can help to disguise the taste (cherry juice, anyone?) Or drink the water and ACV with a squirt of lemon or lime. Another option is to mix the Apple Cider Vinegar in with vegetable juice or a veggie blender drink.

Simplest home remedy for gout
to reduce attacks

Good quality water is an amazing home remedy for gout - simple but effective. It dilutes all that excess acid in your blood.

When you feel an attack of gout coming on, drink a glass of water right away.

Some gout sufferers swear by this simple remedy because they say it either prevents the gout attack or keeps it from getting too bad.

It's hard for your kidneys to get rid of all that uric acid when you don't drink water. Result? Gout pain.

You can't get the water you need from soft drinks, coffee or alcoholic beverages, since they dehydrate you.

Nutritionist Hayley Pomroy recommends that you drink half your body weight in ounces of water every day.

So why aren't you drinking water?
3 good reasons...

You probably don't like the taste of tap water! A lot of people don’t.

Why not? 3 reasons...

1. Ordinary tap water is full of chemicals that taste horrible.

The answer to this is to buy a good water filter for your home. Or drink bottled water that has already been filtered or comes from a reliable source.

2. Tap water lacks the natural minerals that give it flavour and nutritional value. So it either tastes bad or bland and boring.

Solution: Add natural mineral drops to your glass of water. You will notice the difference in the taste AND in your health. Minerals drops are wonderful home remedies that help your body function better.

3. It doesn’t have sugar in it.

If you’re used to drinking sweet carbonated beverages, water seems pretty tame. Soft drinks seem to be the exact opposite of natural remedies for gout because of their sugar and fructose.

Sugar is 50 percent fructose which boosts uric acid levels enormously. And drinks sweetened with high fructose corn syrup obviously won't do you any favours. In fact...

A study published in the British Medical Journal showed that drinking two soft drinks a day increases your chance of having gout by 85 percent!

If you want your water to be sweet, add some cherry juice. That way, you will have a sweetened drink that will actually HELP you with your gout. Start with half cherry, half water, and slowly decrease the amount of cherry juice in your water until it’s only a couple of tablespoons. Then see if you are okay drinking plain water.

Or make your own fizzy drink with cherry juice and plain carbonated water. Sour cherry juice is a great home remedy for gout.

Stop Eating The
Foods To Avoid With Gout

One of the best home remedies for gout is to stop eating gout foods.

Most of those foods are refined carbohydrates that have sugar in them. Sugar is half fructose and fructose is the real villain when it comes to gout.

You may have been told that purines are the problem and you should stop eating meat since it has the highest levels of purines.

But researchers have found that reducing purines does very little to lower uric acid or stop gout attacks. So meat and other purine-rich foods are not the problem.

Science writer, Gary Taubes, points out in this article on gout, “...purine-free diets are no longer prescribed for the treatment of gout, as the gout specialist Irving Fox noted in 1984, “because of their ineffectiveness” and their “minor influence” on uric acid levels.

Moreover, the incident of gout in vegetarians... has always been significant and “much higher than is generally assumed.”

Paleo makes it easy

One simple way to cut out the foods that cause gout is a Paleo or Primal eating style.

The Paleo or Paleolithic diet imitates the way many of our early ancestors ate for millennia.

What are those foods today? Meat, fish, chicken, eggs, healthy fats and oils, green and orange vegetables, low-fructose fruits, nuts and seeds.

Are Paleo foods natural remedies for gout? They do help you cut WAY back on your fructose consumption. Without all that fructose, you’re not likely to spike your uric acid levels. And eating the Paleo or Primal way can help you with the health problems that often go with gout such as diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. It’s a satisfying and delicious way to kick-start your health.

Release Gout Thoughts

Gout thoughts? What are they?

According to Candace Pert, PhD, Mona Lisa Schulz, MD, PhD, and many other researchers, how you think and feel affects your gout as well as any other health conditions you have.

Your thoughts are powerful. As Dr. Joe Dispenza says in his book, You Are The Placebo...

..."whether it's joyful or stressful, with every thought you think, every emotion you feel, and every event you experience, you're acting as an epigenetic engineer of your own cells."

He shows actual evidence that your cells respond to your thoughts, so how you think and what you believe will make your gout better... or worse.

But how do you turn your thoughts into
home remedies for gout?

Here’s how:

Simply put, you start paying attention to your thoughts. Notice what you say to yourself and what you think about others. If those thoughts aren’t so great, there’s plenty of evidence that they’ll make you sick.

The good news is that you can change your thoughts to positive and loving ones so they make you healthy. After all, most of your thoughts are just habits - you've thought them for so long, you don't even know you're thinking them.

So, when you notice yourself thinking a negative, critical, angry or fearful thought, STOP right there! Decide consciously to think a better and more positive thought that makes you feel better. When you improve the feeling in your body, your cells also change for the better.

That’s how you turn your thoughts into natural remedies for gout.

Do you spend time
criticizing yourself or others?

Do you fly off the handle and get mad easily? Do you treat yourself or others as if they’re stupid or “out to get you”?

Louise Hay is one of the top experts in the world on changing thoughts to improve health. She has helped millions of people, worldwide, and has found that certain thought patterns go with certain health problems.

Recent scientific studies show that your thoughts powerfully affect your immune system, cortisol levels and genetic expression. So your consistent thoughts can either harm or heal your body.

In her wonderful book, You Can Heal Your Life, Louise Hay lists the probable cause of gout as...

The need to dominate. Impatience. Anger.”

She suggests that whenever you find yourself having such reactions, you substitute the following thoughts...

I am at peace with myself and others. © Karen Alison

I am safe and secure. I am at peace with myself and others.”

Repeating these words many times a day will change gout thoughts into healthy thoughts.

Your thoughts are some of your best home remedies for gout.

To learn more, read Louise Hay's book or watch the movie that demonstrates her techniques, also called “You Can Heal Your Life.”

Being nice doesn’t make you stupid. It makes you feel good because you know you are gracious enough to forgive and smart enough to realize how distasteful some people can be.”
C.S. Lewis
